REGINA -- A Saskatchewan woman is accused of risking the safety of passengers and crew by smoking in an aircraft washroom and failing to keep her cat in a kennel.

Regina police say they were called to the airport Jan. 6 to meet a flight from Toronto with what was described as an unruly passenger.

The flight crew had called ahead to say a woman had been smoking in the washroom.

They also said she had refused to follow repeated instructions to contain her cat.

Leandra Lynn Newman, who is 30 and from Regina, is charged under federal aviation law with smoking in an aircraft lavatory and failing to comply with instructions.

She is to appear in Regina provincial court on April 13.
